What a beautiful night!  I truly enjoy the inspiration and wonder when we meet face-to-face to create vision boards.  Everyone shares deeply and listens fully.

We connected on the environment, caring for ourselves through wonderful foods, gardening, grieving, creating a business model that supports our beliefs and acknowledging that we are important beings on this earth.

Here is a list of some of the books/movies that came up in discussion:

For our next face-to-face vision board session, the topic for April will be “New Growth“.

We will start the session with thoughtful questioning and discussion. 

• Where are things beginning to show signs of “new growth” for you?
• What are the signs?
• Describe “new growth” in your outer-life.  Describe the “new growth” in your inner-life.  What do you notice?

Then, we will all create a vision board!  All supplies will be provided.  Your vision can focus on the “new growth” discussion, or it might go in a completely different direction…where ever the soul leads!

Just go with the flow

When you embark on a new creative project you are full of excitement and enthusiasm! You get your plan in place and begin, ready to bring our idea to life.

Then, you find yourself “attaching” or “hooking” on to other thoughts, ideas or actions. Like checking email over and over, obsessing over exercise or not eating right, worrying about things that are out of your control. I’m sure you can think of many more specific to you. Basically, you avoid the work that needs to happen to keep that creative idea alive and growing.

When this happens, it is important to take a moment to notice.

• What are the triggers that take you away from the creative work?
• How do you get attached?
• What are your thoughts-deeper worries?
• What strategies would help you to “detach”?

Then, you must let that thought, action or idea go-detach. This will get you back to the creative work you wish to complete.

Here are four steps or that will help you notice your own behaviors around “attaching”:

1. Notice –the times you get hooked or attached-when does this happen? Is it daily? Hourly?
2. Sit in the thought, idea or action (attachment) that you seem to do habitually that takes you away from your creative work. Why do you find yourself drawn to it? Ask yourself what is really going on?
3. Go deeper-What are some strategies that you have that will help to you “catch yourself” before this behavior occurs?
   (example: I sit down to write an article and the act of writing becomes difficult. I look over to my email inbox, and think, “I’ll just check a few emails,”, thus taking me off my task of writing. Strategy: Let the idea (checking email) run through my mind, let it pass through, and get back to writing my article.
4. Detach from the thought, idea, action that takes you away. Keep your focus on your creative work. Go with your creative flow.

When we go with the flow we honor our creative energies. The flow of creative expression seems like it would be an easy-going time. We are doing something we love! However, when thoughts, ideas and actions pop up and distract us from our creative flow-it is disrupted. We need to develop strategies to notice when this happens, and get back to the creative task we want to complete.

Think of the creative flow as a river. While traveling this river, you pass over a rocks, large sticks or debris. You notice it. You may get attached or hooked onto the debris. But if you let go of it and move past it, you continue on with the creative flow. Then, your creative journey becomes the focus and you move smoothly through the journey of creating something you truly want.

It was so inspiring to learn about where your lives are going!  Each vision board is so unique…leading us all on such amazing personal journey of discovery.

Inner~Creative~Voice

I just saw one of the origami cubes I made last year. Seeing it made me smile. It reminded me of patience, accomplishment, practice, discipline and connection. I made this box last year creating origami with my boys.

Teaching others (and ourselves) to do one small intricate thing can bring a sense of calmness-of meditation. (Also, some frustration and upset!) But continued focus toward completion brings a sense of satisfaction, creating a moment of creativity in our lives that is multi-faceted.

Why do these small creative things each day? What is the benefit?

Taking a moment to do one simple creative thing each day, adds to the larger picture of our lives. We heal our frenzied minds. We calm-or bring forth energy-to do a task. When that creative task is completed, we have a sense of accomplishment. Being excited about creating something intricate is satisfying. Celebrate it!

How does this connect to the larger picture of our lives? I think of it like this: “When we move one grain of sand, we change the universe”. Each tiny act builds on to others until we have connected ourselves into the intricate fabric of one-ness.

So, create one small thing today. Celebrate your accomplishment. Notice where this leads.

It is a year later and I see this origami box and feel like I have accomplished something great. It was a difficult creative task when I made the box. I struggled, but I finished it! and the box remais on my table as a reminder to celebrate the small, intricate creative acts of everyday life.

Then, we will all create a vision board! All supplies will be provided. Your vision can focus on the “spring cleaning” discussion, or it might go in a completely different direction…where ever the soul leads!
